Wise Computing

چکیده
Major advances in languages, tools and methodologies have improved our ability to develop reactive systems, but the task remains difficult, expensive and error prone. One of the key reasons is the growing complexity of many kinds of reactive systems, which increasingly prevents the human mind from managing a comprehensive picture of all their relevant elements and behaviors. We present a vision that calls for a major change in the way complex software and systems are developed, by shifting the power balance between the human engineers and the development environment. In our computing paradigm, which we term Wise Computing, the development environment is turned into a much smarter, proactive, creative and interactive stakeholder in the development and maintenance processes. Ideally, the computer will join the development team as an equal partner ̶ knowledgeable, concerned, and active.

Data Replication-Based Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment
Abstract— High-performance computing and vast storage are two key factors required for executing data-intensive applications. In comparison with traditional distributed systems like data grid, cloud computing provides these factors in a more affordable, scalable and elastic platform. Furthermore, accessing data files is critical for performing such applications. Sometimes accessing data becomes...
متن کاملService-Oriented Computing: Concepts, Characteristics and Directions
Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) is the computing paradigm that utilizes services as fundamental elements for developing applications/solutions. To build the service model, SOC relies on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), which is a way of reorganizing software applications and infrastructure into a set of interacting services. However, the basic SOA does not address overarching concerns ...
متن کاملNumerical solution of higher index DAEs using their IAE's structure: Trajectory-prescribed path control problem and simple pendulum
In this paper, we solve higher index differential algebraic equations (DAEs) by transforming them into integral algebraic equations (IAEs). We apply collocation methods on continuous piece-wise polynomials space to solve the obtained higher index IAEs. The efficiency of the given method is improved by using a recursive formula for computing the integral part. Finally, we apply the obtained algo...
متن کاملA Cluster Overlap Measure for Comparison of Activations in fMRI Studies
Most fMRI studies use voxel-wise statistics to carry out intrasubject as well as inter-subject analysis. We show that statistics derived from voxel-wise comparisons are likely to be noisy and error prone, especially for inter-subject comparisons. In this paper we propose a novel metric called weighted cluster coverage to compare two activation maps. This metric is based on the intersection of s...
متن کاملWhen Is the Product of Intervals Also an Interval?
Interval arithmetic is based on the fact that for intervals on the real line, the element-wise product of two intervals is also an interval. This property is not always true: e.g., it is not true if we consider intervals on the set of integers instead of intervals on the set of real numbers. When is an element-wise product or a sum of two intervals always an interval? In this paper, we analyze ...
